Susp's Review: Armada Airazor w/Nightscream

By Daniel Suh

The bird lady is back! Despite having never appeared on any show, Transmetal Airazor returns for a third time, with an all-new color scheme, remolding, and a Mini-Con partner. Although, given their color schemes and their alt modes, I really think this duo should've been named Nightbird and Nightracer.

Heheheheh.

NIGHTSCREAM

Vehicle Mode: A recolor of the Street Speed Team's Oval, Nightscream is a Saleena S7. Measuring 5.5 cm (2.2") long, he's mostly very dark purples with black windows and metallic silver hubcaps and vents. His faction symbol and PX socket are on his rear left underside.

Transformation: Legs slide down, sides become arms, hood becomes chest.

Robot Mode: In robot mode, Nightscream stands 6 cm (2.4") tall. His midsection and thighs are silver and his visor is yellow. He has ball-jointed hips and shoulders and elbows that bend 45 degrees or so. He also features molded fists and laser blasters at the ends of his arms. The two pegs holding his torso together won't stay in very well, making him unstable in this mode.

Overall, a satisfactory recolor of an okay mold.

AIRAZOR

Bird Mode: Airazor is a robotic peregrine falcon measuring 15 cm (6") long with a wingspan of 26 cm (10"). Her main colors are very dark purple and black, with metallic gray airbrushing at her front, assorted red and metallic silver accents, and blue "energon" radiating from the dead hardpoints on her wings. A stark contrast to her previous two versions, which were mostly white, yellow, and blue. The detailing on Airazor is fantastic, especially her engine covers and her deadly-looking talons. Her wings can swing forward, stretch out, or fold back for divebombing attacks and she has three joints in each leg. She looks quite good with members of the Night Attack Team attached to her wings.

Vehicle Mode: Slide back Airazor's wings to reveal jet engines, fold her legs back, swing down and unfold the front sections of her wings to form pontoons, and the bird lady is now ready to conquer the seas as well as the sky. It also helps that her tail is shaped rather like that of an aircraft's. The only small drawback is that the pontoons are located too far ahead on her body for her to balance on them.

Transformation: Open up Airazor's back, swing out her hips and legs, swing up her chest piece, flip up her head, swing down her shoulders, and then snap her chest and hips into position. Depending on your personal preference, you can have her wings pointing up or pointing down. Pointing up makes her look more dynamic while pointing down allows you to use the wingtips as props for action poses. Also, despite being billed as an Autobot, Airazor has a Decepticon symbol molded into her back. Maybe she's a double spy.

Robot Mode: Airazor stands 12.5 cm (5") tall at the head, 16 cm (6.3") with wings up. She's still mainly dark purple and black with a red and blue face, light green eyes, red airbrushed chest, and blue energon radiating from the half sphere on her left breast. Whereas she was mostly mechanical in falcon mode, she has molded feathers on her chest, hips, and thighs in this mode. Her talons hang off her forearms like giant gauntlets.

Airazor is articulated at the head, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and ankles. Her ankles could stand to be a bit longer, as she's pretty backheavy.

Overall, Susp Sez: If third time really is a charm, Airazor is proof of that. Her dark color scheme is a vast improvement over her previous two and her compatibility with Mini-Cons increases her play value. A good, solid toy. 8.5/10
