Susp's Review: Emergency Mini-Con Team

By Daniel Suh

Am I the only who thinks it's kind of perverse to have three rescue vehicles that convert into heavy weapons of massive destruction? Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

FIREBOT

Vehicle Mode: As his name suggests, Firebot is a fire engine. Measuring 5.5 cm (2.2") long, he's primarily red with white parts at his lower rear, metallic silver windows, metallic gray panelling, orange accents, and a
translucent blue hose mounted on his roof. Unlike the previous six TF fire engines (Inferno, Hot Spot, Hosehead, Red Hot, RID Optimus Prime, and Spychanger Optimus Prime), he doesn't come with a ladder. He has two PX sockets and a faction symbol on his roof at the rear. Kinda strange to see the sockets on top of a vehicle for a change.

Weapon Mode: Fold down the roof halves, rotate them 180 degrees, fold down the hose, and fold back the front section of the vehicle to reveal a 12-shot missile launcher with gray-yellow missiles as well as two cannons, one on either side. Looks great attached to Red Alert's or Jet Convoy's shoulder, and when attached via the right side peg, it can even pivot.

Transformation: Unfold the launcher back into vehicle mode, flip out the robot legs, and flip down the translucent blue panel to reveal the head.

Robot Mode: With his colossal white shoulders, Firebot stands a little over 6 cm (2.4") tall. Indeed, his shoulders make it impossible for the poor guy to see anything other than what's directly in front of him. His head is red with a navy blue visor, and is molded to look like he's wearing a fireman's helmet. He had six orange circles mounted in his shoulders that could be additional missile pods. He's articulated at the shoulders, hips, and knees.

While his robot mode could be a little better, Firebot is nevertheless a great toy. 8.5/10

MAKESHIFT

Vehicle Mode: Makeshift is a VSTOL aircraft similar to the accident-prone V-22 Osprey. 5.5 cm long with a 6 cm wingspan, he's mostly cream white and translucent blue with some black parts, a metallic silver cockpit window, orange vents, metallic gray on his nose, and metallic gray arrows on his stabiliser fins, pointing downwards. His twin rotors spin freely and can rotate downwards just like a real V-22. His faction symbol is on his right side and his PX socket is mounted on the underside of his cockpit.

Weapon Mode: Fold back the aircraft's tail, fold up the rotor blades, and swing them down to form a couple of triple-barrelled gatling guns, with spinning action! Rock!

Transformation: Unfold the robot legs, swing down the cockpit, flip up the head, and fold the wings up against the sides.

Robot Mode: The smallest of the trio, Makeshift stands just over 5 cm (2") tall. His head is white with an orange visor and mouthplate and his thighs are black. His rotors/gatling guns now function as huge three-fingered hands, making him the only Mini-Con with articulated fingers (I sure wouldn't want to be frisked by this guy). He's also articulated at the shoulders, hips, and knees, but his legs can only attain a gunfighter stance. "Sixgun" would've been a good name for this guy.

Overall, Makeshift is yet another fantastic Mini-Con toy. 9/10

PROWL

Vehicle Mode: Prowl, naturally, is a police car. Translucent blue and cream white with light orange headlights, red sirens, metallic silver windows, and a black front bumper, he's just under 6 cm long. With his aerodynamic structure, enlarged rear wheels and exposed racing engine, he can probably catch up with any fleeing criminal. His faction symbol is on his left front fender and his PX socket is on his roof behind his sirens, which makes him look pretty funny when attached to a larger TF.

Weapon Mode: Swing back the left half of the car, fold the engine and rear wheels 90 degrees, fold down the left car door, and flip out the left half of the front bumper to form the handle. You now have a heavy rifle with ammo clip. Moreover, Prowl's design allows for the clip and rifle handle to be formed on either side. The handle fits snugly into the fist of any Armada figure that has one, as well as many Ultra-sized figures from previous lines.

Transformation: Swing out both rifle handles, flip out the legs, and slide the left half of the car back into place.

Robot Mode: Prowl stands just under 6.5 cm (2.6") tall. The rear wheels and engine on his head make for a bizarre type of battle helmet. His eye visor is red and his mouthplate is black. He has yellow circles on his arms and black thighs. His articulation consists of ball-jointed shoulders and hinged hips and knees.

While his robot mode is nothing special, Prowl's car and rifle mode make him yet another winner. 9/10

Overall, Susp Sez: The Emergency Team is most definitely worth your while and wallet. Their robot modes are decent enough, their vehicle modes are nice, and their weapon modes simply rock. 8.8/10
